Software platform connecting home batteries, EV chargers, and heat pumps to electricity flexibility markets across Europe

Axle Energy builds a software platform that lets energy suppliers, OEMs, and aggregators connect distributed home energy assets - EV chargers, home batteries, and heat pumps - to local and national electricity flexibility markets. The platform handles asset control, user onboarding, demand forecasting, and trading, and can be accessed via API, white-label app, or pre-built frontend components.

Why it matters

When homes can export flexibility from batteries and shift EV charging to low-carbon periods, they displace the gas peaker plants that grid operators otherwise fire up to meet demand spikes. Axle's portfolio currently represents around 1 GW of aggregated flexible capacity - larger than most UK wind farms by their own comparison - and the platform pays households roughly £400 per year for an EV's participation in UK flexibility markets. By making it faster and cheaper for companies to aggregate and trade distributed assets, Axle accelerates the shift away from fossil-fuel peaking generation.

The company has raised $11 million and holds trading licenses across multiple European markets, allowing assets to be enrolled in flexibility programmes within days rather than months.
