Archaea Energy, a bp company, is a leader in landfill gas to energy and the largest renewable natural gas (RNG) producer in the US. With big ambitions, we specialize in the development, construction and operation of RNG, landfill-gas-to-electric and dairy digester facilities. The team operates around 50 sites in 32 states with a robust development pipeline.

About the role

The Director of Business Development & Regulatory, Power will be focused on commercial and business development affairs of Archaea’s power business in Virginia, Pennsylvania and Maryland, including building and guiding external commercial and regulatory relationships and coordinating with internal stakeholders to manage power assets in the region.

Key accountabilities

Commercial / Business Development management:

  • Manage gas rights: As key manager of GRAs, monitor deadlines and obligations under GRAs and manage term extensions and any amendments as required. Be the overall manager of gas rights for LFGTE assets
  • Manage key commercial relationships –maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders, including:
    • Landfill owners (public and private)
    • PJM
    • Local Distribution Companies / Utilities
    • PPA or Retail customers (as applicable)
    • Other key partners / vendors for power production operations
  • Manage PJM eMrkt /eGADS tools for daily management of power reporting / sales.  Coordinate with operations teams to provide updates as needed (in some cases daily)
    • Input and monitor unit availability, fuel usage, outage and performance data – coordinate with operations team
    • Offer price (determined separately below)
    • Receive bid awards and schedule production with operations
  • Manage and input capacity bids for capacity auctions
    • Annually develop bids for PJM Capacity Auction and enter relevant data for Offer Caps.
  • Provide periodic PJM-required reporting and keep PJM tools updated (names, roles & responsibilities, etc)
  • Manage renewable credits and regulatory reporting:
    • Manage REC generation via PJM tool data entry (including fuel mix data)
    • Manage REC offtake / sales
    • Prepare / file FERC quarterly reporting
    • Prepare / file EPA reporting
    • Prepare / file PA and VA regulatory filings
  • Operations commercial support:
    • Coordinate daily gas purchases with Ops

Essential education

  • B.S. in business, marketing, or equivalent required and MBA or advanced certifications would be a plus (not required)

Essential experience

  • 10+ years business development experience with 5+ years focus on power markets
  • Must be able to develop proposal presentations and present to internal and external stakeholders
  • Must be effective in working both independently and in a team setting
  • Ability to uncover business challenges and develop a custom solution to solve those challenges
  • Ability to lead without direct authority
  • Superior people skills, especially with respect to networking
  • Proven expertise with capturing, verifying and synthesizing data into actionable priorities
  • Knowledge of common business development practices
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) with the capacity to communicate with people ranging from a plant operator to a corporate senior management level.
  • Willing to travel 10%-20%
  • Pre-employment drug test and background check required.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in managing relationships with government entities preferred.

  • Experience in development of business strategy preferred
