Software Engineering Lead Analyst
Position Overview
Evernorth, a leading health services organization, seeks highly qualified data engineers and developers to join our Data and Analytics team. In this position, you will collaborate closely with your development team on projects aligned with Evernorth’s strategic objectives and work alongside subject matter experts to accurately interpret business logic for engineering purposes. As a software engineer, you will contribute to the design and implementation of unified architectural strategies, enabling advanced reporting and analytical capabilities across the enterprise. The role operates within an agile environment, delivering user-centric solutions.
The Software Engineering Advisor – QA (Mainframe / Junior Development Support) is responsible for quality testing of mainframe and data‑centric applications and provides limited junior‑level development support within the mainframe environment. This role ensures the successful delivery of assigned projects by validating application functionality, data integrity, and batch processing while collaborating closely with development teams and business stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Quality Responsibilities
- Perform quality testing for new and modified applications across mainframe and database environments.
- Design, document, and execute test plans, test cases, and test scenarios, including manual and automated testing.
- Validate data accuracy and completeness across mainframe files and databases, including flat files and downstream systems.
- Collaborate with developers, business stakeholders, and cross‑functional teams to understand requirements, dependencies, and testing scope.
- Create, track, and report QA metrics to ensure all phases of the testing lifecycle are documented and auditable.
- Review, document, and maintain test execution results and defects in JIRA.
- Manage QA activities across multiple projects or stories simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery.
- Support defect triage, issue resolution, and escalation activities.
- Participate effectively in an agile team environment and support continuous improvement of QA processes.
Junior Development & Mainframe Support Responsibilities
- Provide junior‑level development support for mainframe applications under the guidance of senior developers.
- Assist with analysis, review, and minor updates to COBOL programs, JCL, and related control statements.
- Create or modify test JCLs and support batch job execution for development and testing purposes.
- Assist in debugging production and non‑production issues by reviewing job outputs, logs, and abend information.
- Support documentation of technical changes, test evidence, and code impacts for audit and compliance purposes.
Qualifications
Required Skills:

Hands‑on experience in Quality testing for mainframe applications.

Working knowledge of mainframe technologies, including:
- JCL
- COBOL (basic to intermediate exposure)
- DB2
- VSAM
- Mainframe file systems (flat files)
- TSO
- Teradata

Strong SQL skills for data validation and analysis.

Experience using JIRA for defect tracking, test documentation, and audit support.

Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with technical teams and business stakeholders.
Required Experience & Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline with 5 to 8 years of experience in application program development, or the equivalent in education and work experience.
- Experience or familiarity with Endeavor, SyncSort, and EzTrieve.
- Exposure to CA7 for job scheduling and batch operations.
- Familiarity with Jenkins or similar CI/CD tools used to support build or testing workflows.
Additional Expectations
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks with limited supervision while collaborating closely with senior team members.
- Ability to anticipate testing and support needs, identify risks early, and contribute to improved QA and development practices.
- Willingness to continue expanding technical skills across mainframe testing and development disciplines.
Desired Experience:
- AWS certification preferred
