Reporting to the Global Head of Responsible Sourcing – Minerals, Metals, Bulk and Power, the Regional Head of Responsible Sourcing (Africa and ) will lead a regional responsible sourcing team and personally execute the full spectrum of gold-focused assessment and capacity building activities across Africa and the Asia-Pacific region. The role combines senior leadership and strategic oversight of the regional programme with deep, hands-on expertise in gold and precious metals supply chain due diligence — including direct conduct of complex or high-risk assessments where specialist knowledge is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Significant professional experience in responsible sourcing, supply chain due diligence, or social and environmental assessment, with deep specialist expertise in gold and precious metals supply chains
  • Expert working knowledge of the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Mineral Supply Chains and the LBMA Responsible Gold and Responsible Silver Guidance
  • Comprehensive understanding of gold-specific risk areas including conflict financing, illicit trade and money laundering, ASM dynamics, mercury use, and community and land rights
  • Strong awareness of relevant regulatory requirements including the EU Conflict Minerals Regulation, Dodd-Frank Section 1502, and emerging EU supply chain due diligence legislation
  • Proven hands-on experience personally conducting all three assessment types: desk-based reviews, supplier assessment questionnaires (SAQs), and site assessments including in high-risk and remote gold-producing regions
  • Proven people management or team leadership experience, with the ability to develop and mentor specialist staff
  • Strong resource planning skills, with a track record of driving team productivity — managing capacity, prioritising competing demands, and getting the best out of a small, busy team
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and commercial decision-makers, communicating complex due diligence issues with clarity and impact
  • Experience designing and delivering supplier capacity building programmes on responsible sourcing requirements, adapting content and approach to different audiences and maturity levels
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor supplier improvement over time: tracking corrective action progress, identifying trends, and making evidence-based decisions about supplier standing within a programme
  • Excellent analytical, report-writing, and stakeholder communication skills in English
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 30% of the time across Africa and the Asia-Pacific region, including to high-risk and remote locations

Preferred - Accreditation & Training

  • Accreditation or formal training under one or more of the following schemes: RMAP, Copper Mark, IRMA

Preferred — Experience & Skills

  • Extensive in-country gold assessment experience in African mineral-producing regions
  • Direct experience conducting site-based assessments of gold operations, including artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) operations, refiners, and trading intermediaries
  • Familiarity with Asia-Pacific mineral supply chains, including gold, battery minerals, and base metals in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, and Mongolia
  • Experience with ASM gold supply chains, formalisation programmes, and initiatives such as Fairmined, Fairtrade Gold, and the CRAFT Code
  • Broader exposure to responsible sourcing across mineral portfolios including 3TG, cobalt, copper, battery minerals, and base metals including lead and zinc
  • Knowledge of refiner and smelter due diligence tools including the RMI Conformant Smelter List and the LBMA Good Delivery List
  • Existing relationships with industry bodies and multi-stakeholder initiatives active in African and Asia-Pacific mineral supply chains
  • Professional proficiency in French, given the importance of Francophone sourcing regions in the African programme

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and personally conduct gold-focused supplier assessments (desk-based, SAQ, and site-based) for counterparties in the DRC and across Africa and Asia-Pacific, taking direct ownership of the most complex and high-risk cases
  • Manage comprehensive supplier assessment, monitoring, and capacity building of counterparties, with gold supply chains as the primary focus
  • Design and deliver capacity building activities with suppliers, tailoring training content and delivery to the audience's maturity level, and building the team's own assessment capabilities
  • Monitor supplier improvement over time, tracking corrective action plans and making evidence-based decisions on supplier standing within the programme
  • Support broader Africa and Asia-Pacific due diligence initiatives and assessment requirements as needed
  • Lead the implementation of Trafigura's Responsible Sourcing Due Diligence and Capacity Building framework across regional operations, ensuring methodological consistency with global standards
  • Participate in cross-functional collaboration to execute Trafigura's responsible sourcing strategy in alignment with policies, corporate objectives, customer requirements, and commercial imperatives
