Job description
Every day, we work together for what matters – bold, swift, and equitable climate action.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Carbon Project Operations team supports, develops, and manages projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and monetizes environmental benefits across voluntary and compliance markets. As a Project Manager on this team, you will step in immediately to independently manage a growing portfolio of commercially viable projects in North America.
This mid-level role is designed for an experienced professional capable of handling project volume autonomously to alleviate staff capacity constraints. You will manage new and existing carbon offset projects, support supply chain reductions (SCRs) and handle bespoke verification and reporting standards.
This full-time hybrid role reports to a Carbon Project Operations Team Director located in our San Francisco headquarters. While we have a preference for candidates based near our San Francisco, CA office, we remain open to highly experienced candidates based near our New York, NY office location. 3Degrees does not provide sponsorship or work authorization assistance.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
In this role, you will independently manage a portfolio of new and existing carbon projects, ensuring seamless execution from data collection through final verification. You will utilize advanced efficiency tools, handle large datasets, and ensure rigorous compliance with evolving greenhouse gas frameworks.
- Project Management: Independently manage a pipeline of at least six projects, ensuring milestones and reporting deadlines are met.
- Data & Framework Alignment: Apply expert greenhouse gas accounting methodologies and ensure strict adherence to standards across a dozen or more active projects.
- Verification Oversight: Prepare comprehensive documentation packages for registries and verifiers, coordinate verification cycles, and independently resolve corrective action requests.
- AI Integration: Leverage enterprise AI tools (such as Google Gemini) to enhance research efficiency, data synchronization, and operational workflows.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Act as a dependable liaison for project owners, partners, and third-party verification bodies.
- Future Leadership: Prepare to potentially take on direct people management responsibilities within your first year as the team expands.
ABOUT YOU
You are a highly analytical, organized, and mission-driven professional who thrives in data-heavy environments. You do not require intensive training to get started; instead, you possess the immediate capability to step in, navigate complex spreadsheets, and manage multiple verification packages simultaneously. You are an excellent technical writer and feel comfortable translating intricate data sets into clear, regulatory-compliant documentation.
- Experience: 3 to 5 years of professional experience in greenhouse gas accounting, carbon markets, or environmental compliance.
- Standards & Protocols: Strong proficiency in standards (specifically greenhouse gas accounting frameworks).
- Verification Background: Prior auditing or verification house experience (e.g., implementing verification body protocols) is highly prioritized.
- Technical Skills: Advanced spreadsheet proficiency, data management skills, and quantitative technical writing abilities.
- Modern Tool Fluency: Experience or high proficiency with utilizing AI tools for research, data manipulation, and operational efficiency.
- Education: A four-year degree in Engineering, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, or an equivalent quantitative discipline.
- Preferred: Exposure to dairy operations, manure management, landfill gas modeling, or Life Cycle Assessment () tools. Prior experience managing people is a significant plus.
