Location: Field, OR, MA

The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from:

Job Summary:

This is a senior-level position within the Transmission group reporting to the Senior Director, Transmission & Interconnection, within the Vice President, Organic Growth, organization of Avangrid Renewables (AREN).

Primary responsibility will be for managing a specific region’s interconnection portfolio with limited supervision. This position requires identifying and securing interconnection positions, managing the requests through the queues, contributing to development strategies in a specific ISO or TO region by working with internal origination and development teams to create value at specific projects, negotiating the LGIAs, managing the project through construction and supporting the operations team during commissioning and operation.

In support of Avangrid’s renewable projects and development pipeline, managing a portfolio of interconnection queue requests and managing the interconnection process from submittal to operation. The ideal candidate will have 6+ years in the independent generation development or transmission utility business with good commercial experience but will also possess engineering, transmission and/or generation development expertise (ie not just a developer or project manager).

This position will serve as the primary contact with the transmission providers and will be primarily responsible for implementing the interconnection strategies for a region, filing interconnection requests, managing the requests through to an interconnection agreements and regional specific initiatives as directed by the Sr. Director, Transmission. The ideal candidate will have experience interfacing with Independent System Operators and Transmission Owners in a specific region on generation interconnections, responding to such requests from a transmission owner perspective, or having performed third-party analysis to assist in determining feasibility of interconnection scenarios. Specific responsibilities, among others, will include:

  • Manage interconnection positions to support Avangrid’s Commercial, Organic Growth, Asset Management, and Policy groups to enhance the value of Avangrid projects by developing the most favorable interconnection and transmission strategies for development projects.

  • Manage, research and secure interconnection positions for greenfield wind, solar, and storage sites in a specific transmission region

  • Coordinating siting of interconnection and transmission facilities; collaborate with Avangrid Project Delivery, Development Engineering and Operations groups

  • Oversee/manage performance of technical screening studies to determine interconnection feasibility.

  • Review, negotiate, and coordinate execution of LGIP-related agreements

  • Identify and communicate risks associated with each interconnection queue and interconnection agreement.

  • Key participant in Avangrid’s relationships with TO & ISO in a specific region.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's or advanced degree in engineering, business or related field. Minimum 6 years of industry experience in the following: generation development, interconnections, transmission planning or utility operations, and/or power marketing. Experience and transmission system knowledge of ISO but experience in the non-organized WECC, ERCOT, and SERC markets is also beneficial. Excellent communication skills, analytical skills. Ability to travel and support site prospecting and/or project development activities.
