As a Consultant – Smart Grid Operations, you will work at the intersection of Power Systems, Operational Technology (OT) and Digital Transformation. You will support leading grid operators in modernizing control room operations, implementing smart grid technologies and developing the digital capabilities needed to manage the increasingly complex power networks of the future.

Whether it's optimizing SCADA environments, improving flexibility management, enabling real-time operational insights or designing next-generation grid solutions, you will contribute directly to building a more sustainable and resilient energy system.

What You'll Do

Transform grid operations through digital innovation

Help transmission and distribution system operators modernize their operational environments and implement solutions that improve the reliability, efficiency and flexibility of electricity networks.

Deliver smart grid solutions

Work on projects involving technologies such as SCADA, control room systems, Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS), flexibility platforms, OT infrastructure and advanced monitoring solutions.

Bridge engineering and digital technology

Translate operational challenges into practical solutions by combining your knowledge of power systems, operational processes and digital technologies.

Enable data-driven decision making

Leverage operational and system data to generate insights, improve situational awareness and support critical operational decisions.

Drive the energy transition

Support grid operators in integrating sources, managing congestion challenges and increasing network flexibility to meet future energy demands.

Grow into a trusted advisor

Collaborate with clients, engineers and technology teams while developing your consulting, project delivery and leadership skills. As your career progresses, you will have opportunities to lead workstreams, manage client relationships and mentor colleagues.

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Technology, Industrial Engineering or a related field.

• 2+ years of experience in power systems, grid operations, smart grid technologies or the digitalization of grid operators.

• Understanding of electricity network operations and the challenges associated with energy transition and grid modernization.

• Interest in combining engineering knowledge with digital technologies and consulting.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Customer-focused mindset with excellent communication and collaboration skills.

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic project environment.

• Dutch language proficiency at B2 level or higher.

• Fluency in English, both written and spoken.

BONUS POINTS IF YOU HAVE

• Experience with Operational Technology (OT), SCADA systems or control room environments.

• Knowledge of IT/OT convergence, industrial networking and cybersecurity concepts.

• Experience with digital twins, IoT solutions or cloud-based operational platforms.

• Understanding of power system protection, control and automation.

• Hands-on experience with IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-104 or related communication standards.

• Knowledge of DMS, OMS, TMS, DERMS or other grid management systems.

• Experience with flexibility management, congestion management and market interaction.

• Knowledge of energy storage systems and integration.

• Experience with data analytics, AI or advanced digital solutions in the energy sector.

• Familiarity with energy-sector regulations and market developments.

• Experience working directly with clients and stakeholders.

• Certification in Agile, PRINCE2, PMP or other project management methodologies.

For More Senior Candidates

• Proven experience leading client engagements and managing complex stakeholder environments.

• Experience delivering large-scale digital transformation programs within the energy sector.

• Ability to develop business opportunities, lead project teams and mentor junior colleagues.

• Experience translating technical solutions into business value for clients.
