Job description

Consultant Project Management position in the Sustainable Energy Solutions (SES) team of the ERM group, specializing in energy transition and low carbon technologies

About ERM and the SES team:

ERM is the largest sustainable development consulting company in the world. Its diverse teams of experts support their clients by drawing on technical expertise in environmental, health, safety, risks and social issues. The SES team specializes in energy and low-carbon technology consulting and is involved with companies, investors and government organisations to implement low-emission technological solutions in order to help them meet the challenges of the energy transition.

The SES team brings deep expertise in the development, commercialization and implementation of emerging technologies such as decarbonized hydrogen and fuel cells, low-emission transportation, industrial decarbonization, sustainable buildings, electrification in the broad sense, carbon capture, storage and use. The 140+ SES consultants, based mainly in the UK, have the opportunity to collaborate with over 7,000 ERM consultants worldwide, located across 40 countries.

The dynamism of our teams, our experience and our technical expertise allow us to offer innovative solutions, in-depth analyses, as well as strategic recommendations to our clients. Our clients include private companies such as energy providers and distributors, manufacturers involved in the development of low-carbon technologies, public bodies such as government and non-governmental organizations and many new players in the energy transition sector whose strategic thinking and growth we support.

Role:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and hard-working individual, with strong interpersonal skills, to join our project management team. You will be supporting senior team members in the delivery of our world leading innovative technology demonstration projects. As part of the project management team, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day administration of complex, multi-stakeholder projects through their entire lifecycle.

You will contribute to overcoming the challenges associated with first-of-a-kind deployments in the low carbon energy sector including hydrogen and electric vehicles, industrial decarbonisation, and energy storage. Through this role, you will be responsible for building strong client relationships, managing large budgets and events, and supporting the team in monitoring and reporting on targets.

This role is varied and requires a flexible approach to working. Previous project management experience is desirable, but entry level applicants will be considered in a junior position.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the Project Lead in all aspects of project delivery through the entire project lifecycle: including project planning & estimation, budget management, risk management, quality management and stakeholder engagement.
  • Providing secretariat services for multi-stakeholder international projects including organising biannual meetings and hosting regular teleconferences.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Compiling strategic research, briefing documents, reports, and presentations for project meetings and conferences.
  • Developing strategies to communicate the results of projects to technical/non-technical audiences.

Location:

London, Cambridge, Paris or Lille (plan occasional international travel in Europe).

Expected competencies and skills:

  • Degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrated interest in sustainability and low carbon energy.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • IT literate and competent in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Self-motivated and able to take initiative.
  • Fluent in another European language (preferably French or German).
