Job description
ERM is seeking a motivated Principal Consultant, Design Engineer with a focus on remediation system design, construction, and operations & maintenance for our Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania office, supporting work across North America. In this role, you will work closely with experienced Project Managers, Engineers and Scientists on the planning, design, permitting and implementation of diverse and complex engineering assignments. You will be involved in managing and supporting multi-discipline teams working in the renewable energy, power, chemical, manufacturing and other industrial sectors.
Projects will include overseeing the development of construction drawings, technical specifications, contract documents, permit applications and calculations for projects involving soil, sediment, and groundwater remediation as well as vapor intrusion mitigation. Staff management, project controls and management support for significant consulting and construction projects, including scheduling, labor resourcing, and cost estimating, will be a component of this position. This position offers the ability to interact and network with engineering and environmental professionals throughout North America and globally.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage and provide technical expertise on site investigation and remediation projects for a variety of clients with complex technical/regulatory issues in the power, chemical, transportation, and other manufacturing sectors.
- Design and negotiate remedial solutions for contaminated soil and ground water, using innovative and emerging remedial treatment technologies as well as traditional systems.
- Interact with scientists in the site investigation, risk management, and planning disciplines as integrated teams as well as engineers in design and construction.
- Oversee multiple projects within client's scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables across ERM's Contaminated Site Management service line.
- Appropriately delegate project assignments to project teams and mentor junior staff.
- Develop and expand client relationships that generate repeat business to grow the Site Investigation and Remediation service area in the eastern US.
- Direct and review field data collection, calculations, engineering reports, cost estimates, comprehensive schedules, and progress-tracking reports.
- Prepare technical proposals and participate in business development with existing clients and identified leads.
- Work with other ERM resources to deepen relationships with ERM key clients and establish new client relationships that result in significant net revenue growth.
- Lead, manage performance, hire and retain, inspire and mentor personnel for overall success of the technical team.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in-place, and eligibility for reciprocity of PE licensure held in other states preferred.
- 6+ years of relevant technical experience. Candidates with significantly more experience or high performing candidates with less experience are encouraged to apply as multiple positions are available.
- Experience and ability to design and implement multiple remediation technologies.
- Experience with Microsoft Project resourcing and scheduling, AutoCAD-based design, GIS and construction management skill sets.
- Excellent verbal, writing, and computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, AutoCAD/GIS).
- Demonstrated ability to research and prepare concise and accurate technical documents, with a keen attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills with complex technical knowledge and concepts.
- Proven business development experience for large programs/contracts and client relationships supported by repeat business, including established contacts.
- Advanced knowledge of the local regulatory climate, with proven negotiation skills with state and local regulators.
- Well-developed teambuilding and influencing skills; unquestioned integrity; and the experience, confidence, and stature to effectively address client and business needs and challenges.
