Metals and Mining Analyst - Minespans

Who You'll Work With

You'll work with our MineSpans team in Brussels. MineSpans is part of McKinsey's Basic Material practice.

MineSpans provides mining companies with the strategic business intelligence to support their market analysis and understanding of the metals and mining sector industry dynamics. It combines advanced analytics, a comprehensive database of mining operations, and global mining expertise.

MineSpans enables clients to assess and improve their views on costs, supply and demand across mining commodities like iron ore, copper, gold, EV-battery materials, steel, aluminum and others.

What You'll Do

You will do research on commodity markets across the Basic Materials domain.

In your role, you will help maintain and develop a comprehensive database of mining operations. You will also analyse mines in depth in order to develop a deep understanding on the market.

Additionally, you will participate in the company's knowledge-building efforts by creating knowledge packs around your focus area. You will support consulting teams and clients to conduct auxiliary analyses and you will also have the chance to guide a small team of researchers.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in geology, mineral economics, mining engineering, metallurgical engineering or material science from a reputed institute
  • 1 - 3 years experience in market research, market analysis, supply and demand analysis, price analysis, economic analysis or database building
  • Interest in learning about the industry dynamics of the mining and metals sector
  • Superior problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Willing to work in a highly demanding and result-oriented team environment
  • Self-motivated and service-orientated work ethic
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
