About the Role:
We are recruiting an experienced Senior Manager to join our team to support our Group External Reporting Director in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial statements and energy and carbon reports. This role offers development and coaching opportunities, leading a team of eight and collaborating with leading accounting specialists.
This role offers the chance to work at the heart of the UK's largest multi-disciplinary professional services practice, collaborating with leading accounting specialists. You will develop first-class technical capabilities while playing a central role in the firm's financial reporting and strategic initiatives with a large proportion of project activity and interaction at senior stakeholder level, including the CFO.
About the Team:
The Group External Reporting team is known as subject matter experts and is highly networked across the business, with our technical expertise sought on all significant initiatives including acquisitions, development of new business areas, changes in accounting standards and design of new finance systems. The role provides an excellent opportunity to develop and demonstrate first class technical capabilities whilst working at the centre of the UK's largest multi-disciplinary professional services practice, alongside leading accounting specialists.
Key Responsibilities:
External Reporting:
- Produce consolidated results, financial statements, and energy and carbon reporting.
- Maintain a seamless audit process, managing the relationship with the external audit team, and ensuring timely collection of information from various teams to meet all deadlines.
- Support evolving reporting developments, including ESG and Pillar II reporting, regulatory, global network, and pension and banking covenant reporting.
- Provide expertise for year-end publications, including the online annual report, transparency report, and sustainability report.
- Support and review financial statements of various UK entities (~60 subsidiaries and joint ventures) under IFRS; including detailed explanatory memorandums and providing recommendations for the relevant boards.
Technical Reporting, Risk and Control:
- Ensure the firm's accounting policies remain current and lead responses to emerging financial reporting issues and new standards; ensuring clearly defined and appropriate financial controls.
- Prepare technical accounting papers related to acquisitions, disposals, new business areas and new accounting standards; collaborate with the firm's client-facing accounting technical team for independent sign-off on significant accounting issues.
- Manage accounting for troublesome practice matters, reserve accounting, global cost accounting and acquisition accounting; ensuring timely monthly reporting.
- Oversee monthly consolidated reporting packs and balance sheet control process, including centrally controlled areas e.g. goodwill, investments, taxes, central finance cost centres journals and analysis.
Leadership and Collaboration:
- Network across the business and collaborate with senior management to influence and drive change.
- Offer informed and independent finance risk perspectives, including guidance and challenge to stakeholders on large change projects and respond to ad hoc queries from the wider business.
About You:
- Must possess a ACA, ACCA, CIMA Qualification (or an international equivalent)
- Strong technical accounting expertise, particularly under IFRS.
- Proven experience in a senior financial reporting role.
- Proven experience influencing at a senior level, a strong understanding of operational functions, managing cross functional teams through transformation across financial processes, systems and controls.
- Excellent organisational skills with an ability to lead multiple workstreams and counterparties to deliver all projects and reporting to deadlines. You will play a key part in defining financial strategy, designing and defining projects, managing timelines and delivery.
- High impact communication and presentation skills, with the ability to work at all levels and to influence wider business direction and decisions.
- Proven people management and leadership skills; able to bring a team together, get buy in and set the direction of travel.
