AES Clean Energy (AES) is seeking to hire a Rotational Attorney. This position is designed for an early-career attorney with some entry-level legal experience who will gain broad exposure to the full spectrum of AES Clean Energy’s legal practice by rotating through each of our five core legal teams: Real Estate, Development, Project Counsel, Commercial, Finance, and Operations. During each rotation, the attorney will work closely with experienced team members, contribute to substantive legal matters, and develop the skills necessary to become a well-rounded energy lawyer. This unique program offers an unparalleled opportunity to explore various practice areas within a dynamic in-house legal team at the forefront of the energy landscape. The AES Clean Energy Legal team has nearly thirty attorneys that are experts in every facet of clean energy development and operations.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Real Estate: Support real estate counsel on land acquisition, title review, easements, rights-of-way, lease negotiations, and landowner relations for projects.
- Development: Assist development attorneys with M&A and due diligence activities and project development matters, including permitting, interconnection, environmental compliance, and stakeholder relations for and battery storage projects.
- Project Counsel: Work alongside project counsel to support the construction phase of energy projects, including drafting and negotiating EPC contracts, managing project-level legal issues that arise during construction, and supporting late state project financing.
- Commercial: Collaborate with commercial attorneys on power purchase agreements (PPAs), energy storage agreements, hedging arrangements, and other commercial contracts.
- Finance: Support finance counsel on project financing transactions, including tax equity, debt financing..
Desired Experience and Skills:
- Strong academic credentials and demonstrated interest in energy, infrastructure, or transactional law.
- experience; wind energy, battery storage or general infrastructure project development experience a plus.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to work effectively as an individual and as part of a team.
- Ability to adapt to a variety of duties and often challenging tasks.
- Smart, decisive, organized, methodical, biased toward action.
- Three to six years of relevant legal experience, preferably at a major law firm or in-house.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- JD from an accredited law school and active bar admission in at least one jurisdiction

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $120,000 and $150,025/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position also includes annual bonus. The benefits offered for this position are: medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, 401(k) eligibility, and paid time off (including vacation, sick leave time, and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
