Job description

ERM is seeking a Consulting Senior Associate, Environmental Scientist to play a key role in growing our business in Tampa, Florida. The ideal candidate will have technical expertise with routing and siting impact analysis, multi-media environmental permitting for large-scale capital projects in the Gulf region, collaborating with and mentoring staff in a project setting, assessing environmental conditions and impacts, plus strong technical writing and communication skills.

The successful candidate will contribute their leadership, client relationship, and technical consulting skills to support the growth of ERM's business and client base in the Gulf Area, while networking with ERM's global impact assessment team and technical experts to share best practices across the industry. Projects are often fast-paced, multi-faceted, and geographically diverse. The successful candidate must be capable of managing varying priorities in order to provide high-quality project deliverables completed on time and within budget.

The candidate will need to demonstrate initiative, critical thinking, and creativity to generate ideas for research questions, work approaches, presentation of information, and issue resolution. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide technical expertise on capital projects for a variety of clients with complex technical/regulatory issues.
  • Support routing and siting studies, analyses and report development, as part of capital project development projects.
  • Collaborate with other ERM team members to execute impact assessment and capital project permitting (e.g., baseline studies, environmental impact assessment, routing studies, land planning, open houses, and facility siting and permitting).
  • Facilitate relationships on behalf of the client with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and State Historic Preservation Offices.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with other ERM employees.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources or related discipline. Or the equivalency of 8+ years related experience in lieu of education.
  • 1-2 years consulting experience working with power or industrial clients on complex projects under a variety of state, federal regulatory structures (FL preferred).
  • Demonstrated excellence managing environmental planning, siting and permitting projects.
  • Working knowledge of key natural resource regulations, including the National Environmental Policy Act, Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act, and Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act.
  • Excellent writing, communication, strategic thinking, and "people" skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to research and prepare concise and accurate technical documents.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • High degree of technical competence and broad knowledge transmission line siting and construction best practices, with a solid grasp of the key impact assessment and management issues (e.g., wetlands, protected species, and visual impact assessment).
  • Ability to work both independently and as a collaborative member of a project team.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, which includes being comfortable and effective at communicating complex technical knowledge and concepts to other staff, clients, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders.
