Job description

ERM is seeking a motivated Staff Environmental Engineer/Scientist, Air Quality to join our consulting team in Rolling Meadows, IL. The successful candidate will work on a variety of interesting technical projects for clients in several sectors that may include oil & gas, power, chemical, warehousing, pharmaceutical, mining, and manufacturing throughout the United States.

The primary role includes support of ongoing work with existing clients in the fields of air quality, permitting, climate change, regulatory compliance, and performance assurance. The primary focus will be air quality (ambient) monitoring, permitting and compliance but the person will need to be flexible to take on tasks in other media such as water and waste if the need arises.

The Rolling Meadows team has a unique ambient monitoring practice that has been established for many years and is in growth mode. They serve internal and external clients all over the world. This is an excellent career opportunity to work with an expert consulting team on challenging environmental management projects for large industrial and global clients. The position also provides a networking opportunity for ERM's national experts in various technical communities who will share knowledge of best practices across the industry and ongoing learning opportunities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide in-office and field support to the ambient air monitoring team which includes hands-on equipment troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating, etc. of analyzers, meteorological stations, and other ambient monitoring equipment.
  • Conduct analyses in various subject matters (e.g., air, water, waste, and land use), assess regulatory applicability and compliance, and perform regulatory applicability evaluations.
  • Conduct site visits of operating industrial facilities.
  • Prepare technical reports for environmental projects.
  • Develop complete and accurate air quality permit applications.
  • Verbal and written interaction with local regulators to steward permit application review and issuance.
  • Prepare emission inventory reports; quantify emissions/concentrations and impacts.
  • Evaluate pollution control technologies, including technical and economic feasibility of pollution control equipment.
  • Implement climate change projects, such as greenhouse gas inventories, emission reductions, energy efficiency, public disclosure and verification.
  • Perform multiple tasks within scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.
  • Interact and maintain successful relationships with clients, ERM employees, and subcontractors.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS degree in Engineering or Science discipline.
  • 0 to 3 years of experience.
  • Direct consulting or industry experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of Environmental, Health, and Safety standards a plus.
  • Strong hands-on spreadsheet and database comprehension.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Interest to work on several tasks at the same time, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently and as part of a project team.
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed.

For the Consulting Associate, Environmental Engineer/Scientist, Air Quality position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $67,653 – $75,194 USD. An employee's pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. We also may have instances where compensation may be outside of the range, based on the factors noted above. This job is also eligible for an annual discretionary based performance bonus.
