Job description

ERM is seeking an experienced and motivated Consultant - Social Performance to join our Canada team. The successful candidate will take a supporting role on a range of social performance tasks including but not limited to baseline data collection and research, and socio-economic monitoring, related to the mining, energy and other sectors. This role will involve extensive quantitative data collection, data compilation and analysis. Experience with databases and proficiency in Excel is required. The successful candidate will support projects in compliance with both national Canadian legislation and international best practice standards.

This is a full-time, permanent position. This role may involve short periods of travel as required based on project needs. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support a wide variety of socio-economic projects related to mining, energy, and other sectors.
  • Design and implement data collection methodologies, conduct extensive quantitative data collection from various public sources, and provide data compilation and analysis.
  • Work with large and complex databases, develop and maintain complex Excel spreadsheets, calculate basic statistics such as weighted averages and growth rates, and prepare easy to understand and accurate visual tools (tables, figures and infographics).
  • Support research, note-taking, report writing, undertaking and organizing data collection and survey fieldwork, data and literature review, and development of recommendations for clients.
  • Support project management activities including health & safety protocol management, monitoring of commercial performance, quality review of deliverables, management of schedule and budget.
  • Collaborate with other ERM practitioners (in Canada, US, and globally) to execute projects.
  • Work with other global ERM resources to deepen relationships with ERM key clients to expand ERM's profile and market share.

QUALIFICATIONS AND DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Bachelor's degree in economics, social science, public health, resource management or a similar degree. Master's degree (or higher) preferred.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in socio-economic data collection and compilation, and conducting research, analysis and interpretations in Canada and/or internationally.
  • Solid grasp of key social and economic topics related to population, employment and economy, community well-being, and infrastructure and services.
  • Experience working with datasets and databases available in public sources such as Statistics Canada, BC Stats, Nunavut Bureau of Statistics, and others.
  • Strong knowledge of Census of Population is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Excel to organize data, complete statistical calculations, lookup and match data, and prepare figures and tables.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI; programming skills in statistical software such as Stata or R are an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present complex data in a clear and concise manner.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and quality.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • High degree of technical competence and broad knowledge of social performance best practices.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Experience developing and delivering presentations, trainings, and facilitation.
  • Strong teamwork skills and experience working with diverse teams.
  • Strong commitment to safety and following established health and safety protocols.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including exceptional writing skills.
  • Fluency in English is required. Fluency in another language (particularly French or Spanish) is an asset.
  • Willing and able to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Valid driver's license required.
