CDP
CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project)
A global environmental disclosure system through which companies and others report on climate, water, and forests via an annual questionnaire.
Last updated
CDP runs a global environmental disclosure system. Through an annual questionnaire, companies and other organizations report data on climate change, water security, and forests, and CDP scores their disclosures. Investors and large purchasing organizations often request that the companies they work with disclose through CDP.
CDP is widely used to gather comparable environmental data at scale, and its questionnaire has been aligned over time with frameworks such as the TCFD and the ISSB standards, reducing duplication for reporters.
Disclosure through CDP is voluntary, but the pressure from investors and customers means many companies treat a CDP response as a practical necessity, and CDP scores are commonly cited as a signal of disclosure quality.
CDP reporting supports demand for environmental data, greenhouse gas accounting, and sustainability reporting skills, since responding well requires reliable underlying data.
Who it applies to
Companies, cities, states, and regions that disclose environmental data, often at the request of investors or customers. Disclosure through CDP is voluntary.
