Sustainability Service Corps

AmeriCorps fellowship placing emerging sustainability professionals with California municipalities, nonprofits, and schools

Sustainability Service Corps (SSC) is an AmeriCorps bridge-to-career fellowship program based in El Cerrito, California. It places cohorts of Fellows with host organizations - local governments, nonprofits, and schools - to lead sustainability, education, and community engagement projects, particularly in disadvantaged communities across California.

Why it matters

SSC addresses two problems at once: a shortage of sustainability capacity in under-resourced public and nonprofit organizations, and a lack of structured entry points for people trying to launch careers in the field. Fellows gain hands-on professional experience running real projects - from energy education to community engagement - while host partners get dedicated support they might not otherwise afford.

The program runs in cohorts of roughly 27 Fellows per term, connecting emerging professionals to a network of partner organizations and preparing them for full-time roles in sustainability and climate work.
