The Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy is a precompetitive industry forum founded in 2008 by dairy farmers through their checkoff program. It operates programs like the Dairy Sustainability Alliance and the U.S. Dairy Stewardship Commitment, a voluntary pledge through which dairy companies report measurable progress on sustainability metrics.

The Center coordinates sustainability efforts across the entire U.S. dairy supply chain - a sector with significant land, water, and greenhouse gas footprints. Its work includes tracking emissions intensity (greenhouse gas emissions per unit of milk dropped 14.7% from 2007 to 2020), scaling regenerative agriculture practices, and standardizing animal care verification across farms representing 99% of U.S. milk production. Rather than competing on these issues, member companies collaborate to raise baseline practices industry-wide.
