HuskESG & Sustainability Jobs
HUSK is based on the strong conviction that the private sector has the power to combat social inequality and tackle climate change. That is why Heloise Buckland and Carol Rius co-founded this innovative, impact-driven business in Barcelona (Spain), and Phnom Penh (Cambodia)
Husk develops, manufactures, and sells biochar-based agricultural inputs - including soil enhancers, granulated biofertilizers, and liquid biostimulants - for smallholder farmers in Cambodia and Vietnam. Founded in Barcelona and operating in the field since 2019, the company converts rice husks into biochar through a smokeless pyrolysis process embedded directly in rice mills, then formulates that biochar into products suited for vegetables, fruit trees, and arable crops.
Why it matters
Biochar locks carbon into a stable form for at least 100 years, making it a recognised carbon dioxide removal technology endorsed by the IPCC. Husk holds European Biochar Certificate (EBC) C-Sink certification and issues Carbon Removal Credits (CRC) to organisations offsetting their emissions - revenue that in turn subsidises affordable fertilizer prices for smallholders. The circular model diverts rice husk waste from open burning, sequesters carbon, and rebuilds degraded soils by improving moisture retention, nutrient uptake, and microbial activity.
The company reports over 6,400 hectares of land improved, roughly 2,900 tonnes of CO2-equivalent sequestered, and more than 7,100 smallholder farmers reached - grounding its regenerative agriculture mission in measurable field outcomes.
