Why it matters

Carlsberg's ESG programme, called Brewing Tomorrow, organises its sustainability work around four pillars: cutting carbon emissions, protecting nature, inspiring responsible consumption choices, and empowering people. Concrete actions include removing over 600 tonnes of plastic from one subsidiary's product cycle since 2019 and transitioning plastic bottles to 80% recycled content. The Carlsberg Research Laboratory also conducts open science - recently publishing the genetic code of hops in Nature Communications - to help the brewing industry adapt crops to a warming climate.

As a large consumer goods company, Carlsberg's sustainability commitments span packaging, water use, agricultural supply chains, and responsible drinking - areas where dedicated ESG and sustainability roles are embedded across the business.
